Junior staff are dedicated and hard working. The exhibitions/collections.
Cons
The unprofessional behavior of senior leadership makes the Trump White House look like a daycare. Some of the many issues plaguing management include daily bullying, explicit harassment of employees of color and queer identity (don't let the cocky-loathing gay curator be a beacon of hope), illegal actions regarding 60 minutes policies, don't forget the senior management that stole funds from the institution, ongoing racist conversations regarding customs partners and exhibitions, and the almanac demise of benefits for cheaper value. This is not "faux news" from a bitter employee simply the truth in regards to an institution that I take dedicated years to and promise on a daily footing will change for the improve.

The staff is vivid, hardworking, fun, and resilient. Many of the exhibitions are actually interesting and thought provoking.

My intent is not to blast the arrangement, simply paint a realistic moving-picture show (pardon the pun) of what's going on there. And then here goes... -Abiding re-prioritization and pivoting makes it hard for staff to sympathise and get behind mission-driven work. -The majority of the managerial staff makes erratic decisions based on fearfulness and stress. From pitting departments against 1 some other, to throwing staff nether the bus, to spending 2/3 of their time dealing with HR issues of their own design, management is often ineffective and untrustworthy. -The establishment pays lip service to diversity, disinterestedness, inclusion, and accessibility, simply does aught well-nigh information technology. After being protested 2 and a one-half years ago for curating a whitewashed show about AIDS (amongst other issues), they even so have not fabricated good on the promises to the public and have made no meaning strides towards creating and executing a plan to address racial equity in the system. The museum as well banned the right for staff to put their pronouns in their signature lines, citing that information technology'south "too political." Leadership (past and nowadays) has said casually racist - and sexist - things with no recourse. -The work civilization is frenetic. In that location were many, many days when I did not have time to eat or go to the bathroom - literally - because of the volume of work, back-to-back meetings, and inefficient workflow. I thought that I had some sort of atomic number 26 deficiency or illness because I went home virtually every solar day with a migraine. Turns out it was just TAM. -Pay is bottomless for nigh people in the organization. You don't work in museums for the pay, that said, the bounty is non commensurate with the expertise needed to perform the job and the stress of working at TAM. The whole industry is guilty of underpaying its employees and TAM is not moving the needle. -Gossip abounds - once again, more often than not promulgated and perpetuated by leadership. Directors accept been overheard sharing confidential employee data with other directors while in the office. -TAM staff has so much untapped potential.

It took awhile to write this review because I wanted to actually pin downwardly where the problems were with the museum. It took awhile because I would think, 'Is it my fault that I'grand being treated this fashion? Did I misspeak or articulate my ideas unclearly?' If you're reading this and piece of work here, let information technology be known that it is not your mistake. I've seen supervisors firsthand blame their department's employees for their own shortcomings. I've witnessed coworkers in management positions talking trash about visitors and other coworkers during business hours. I've heard a lot of gossip surrounding schedule availability (give me a break, you're hiring higher students and people with lives that don't circumduct effectually their part fourth dimension position at the museum. They're not necessarily going to be able to work a shift that you failed to sign them up for earlier finalizing the schedule. Communicate with them, you hired them.) I've known those in leadership positions to lie about anything from the flimsy dress lawmaking (a wearing apparel lawmaking that management doesn't seem to understand) to showroom security. I've witnessed a crazy amount of turnover due to the poor management and staff morale. Advice could use some serious help. Important conversations related to your employment will happen in the foyer and in passing, you lot often are put on the spot and don't accept fourth dimension to recollect and weigh your options.
