Soundclick communication

Hope this isn't quite the wrong place to post this, but I notice many of the songs posted here are hosted at SoundClick. I was looking to join the site myself and mail service my music, but this clause in their legal contract concerned me a bit:

Yous hereby grant to u.s.a., and by the human activity of delivering Standard Program Fabric to us grant to us, a nonexclusive, worldwide, royalty-costless license to: (a) reproduce, distribute, publicly perform, publicly display and digitally perform the Standard Plan Material in whole or in role (including the right to create compilations which include your songs);

This sounds to me like they can use your tunes for pretty much whatever they desire, without paying you a dime? Am I reading this correct? What does the customs at big thing about the use of SoundClick for music promotion, and how does it protect (or not protect based on the above clause) the musician?

Thanks for any communication, and again, I hope this isn't quite in the wrong place.

Hallo David

You lot raise a good point. My agreement of copyright law is limited but I read the Soundclick legal contract as covering them for people across the net playing your music at Soundclick.com. Part of the process of uploading a piece to Soundclick includes y'all specifying exactly what you will allow people to do with your music. All my music is nether a Creative Commons licence at Soundclick whereby I let people to download and share my music freely. However, I do not allow my music to be used for commercial purposes or altered. In the result that anyone should want to apply my music for commercial purposes (I can dream!), they would accept to contract with me directly. So, I am personally happy to use Soundclick every bit an online repository for my music. I suggest you upload one piece to Soundclick and follow through the detailed licensing process to see if you are happy with it. You lot can always delete it if you are not.

Best Regards
Malcolm

Have you checked out other sites?

What are you trying to achieve by posting your music? Are y'all intending to sell information technology, or practice yous just want to be heard?

That's a very important question to know before asking a question. No offense meant whatsoever.

I just desire my music to be heard by friends and family so I mail service my stuff on "Bandcamp". At that place are others depending on your criteria for posting songs, in that location is "Sound Cloud, Our Stage, Reverb Nation" only to proper name a few. I only linked Bandcamp because I use information technology myself.

BTW: You are wise to read the disclaimers on this stuff. "Just because everybody is doing information technology doesn't hateful everybody has music they would like to market place".

Best of luck with your situation, I can't requite yous a precise answer and I don't think that anyone tin either.

Since Sound Click has the clause y'all don't like in their understanding then check out some of the other sites I suggested. Bandcamp may not be the right i for you lot, but perhaps some of the others might exist.

Good Luck,

                  Bobby

Well, it's non-exclusive, which means you lot can likewise upload the song to any other site and sell it to whoever wants to pay for it. It'southward still your song.
As for the "without paying yous a dime" role, surely free promotion of your vocal is worth more than nothing?
And I have notwithstanding to see any 'Soundclick Presents The World'due south Best Unknown Musicians' compilation CD at any of the record stores.
Try it; it won't hurt.

If you don't like the understanding, don't post there.

For well-nigh people, this will never be an event. If they were to take 1 of MY songs and put it into a compilation or advertisement for the site... that would exist absurd with me. Costless advertising and something I could add to my list of songwriting credentials.

That agreement is only constructive for the songs that you accept on their site. When you get rich and famous, your lawyer volition likely suggest you to remove those songs from soundclick anyway. Until then, I really don't think you take anything to worry most.

I like information technology because information technology streams the music..... and I take a bunch of stuff on that site ..... if they made me mad I'd likely go to the trouble to motion to a unlike site.
